US to Change Detention Policy of Immigrant Families

US immigration authorities are set to scale back the long-term detention of families with children who enter the country illegally. The plans will also aim to speed up immigrant processing at detention centers, and will benefit thousands of children and mothers fleeing persecution. While the number of immigrants coming from Central America across the southern US border has gone down over the last year, the figures still remain high.
