Saskatchewan Entrepreneur Stream Draw To Happen Thursday

A new draw through Saskatchewan’s popular Entrepreneur Stream will take place on Thursday, March 5.

The draw will be the second of 2020, and the second since the Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP) changed the way it selects Entrepreneur Stream candidates.

The first draw of 2020 took place on January 7 and saw 42 invitations issued.

Selected candidates averaged a score of 120 points in the Expression of Interest system, with a low score of 115 points and a high of 145.

Those invited who scored 115 points needed Canadian Language Benchmark level four or higher to qualify.

Under changes introduced in December 2019, Saskatchewan now prioritizes three selection factors to separate candidates with the same score on the Entrepreneur stream points grid.

The three factors, in order of priority, are:

  1. Official language ability.
  2. Those with businesses planned for a key economic sector.
  3. Completion of an exploratory visit.

The Saskatchewan immigration Entrepreneur stream is a three-stage process:

  1. Expression of interest
  2. Invitation to submit application
  3. Nomination

The expression of interest must meet the following minimum entry requirements:

  • Minimum net worth of $500,000 legally acquired.
  • Minimum of three years of entrepreneurial or relevant management experience.
  • Investment of at least $300,000 in Regina or Saskatoon, or $200,000 in any other Saskatchewan area.

Candidates enter a pool where they receive a score. The top-scoring candidates are invited to submit an application.

Applications must include:

  • Business Establishment Plan confirming figures in expression of interest, and including at least one third ownership of a company in Saskatchewan, unless investment is $1 million or higher.
  • Commitment to be active in day-to-day management of business.
  • Creation of two or more jobs for Canadian citizens or permanent residents if the business is located in Regina or Saskatoon.

Meanwhile, Saskatchewan launched a new International Graduate Entrepreneur Stream in December, aimed at international students graduating from Saskatchewan institutions.

The stream works on a four-stage process, where candidates submit an Expression of Interest, receive an Invitation to Apply, establish their business while on a Post-Graduation Work Permit and are then nominated for permanent residence.
