Russia (-7,000) and India (-5,000) also saw\nsignificant outflow of millionaires.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Read More<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Unsurprisingly, the US is home to the most HNWIs, with a\ntotal millionaire population approaching five million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Japan, China, the UK and Germany round out the top Wealth<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>The report reveals millionaires are increasingly mobile,\nwith 108,000 migrating during 2018, up 14 per cent on 2017 and more than 100 per\ncent on 2013.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Present conditions such as stability, business opportunities\nand crime rates are some of the top reasons why millionaires choose to leave\ntheir countries, and why they move to their country of destination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The reports authors also suggest the departure of the\nwealthy can be a sign of difficult times to come. The UK, for example, lost\n3,000 millionaires in 2018, as high net worth individuals consider their\noptions with the turmoil of Brexit looming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Important factors that put Australia top of the list for\nattracting millionaires include its safety, economic stability and lack of\ninheritance tax, plus its business links to Asian countries such as China,\nJapan and South Korea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The increasing prevalence of investment immigration programs\noffers many options to HNWIs looking to emigrate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Canada has several options for business immigration, the\nmost popular of which is the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.immigration.ca\/quebec-immigrant-investor-program\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Quebec\nImmigrant Investor Program<\/a> (QIIP).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The QIIP is the only passive investment immigration program\nleading to Canadian permanent residence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was revamped for the 2018-2019 intake period, with an\ninvestment requirement of $1.2 million and a qualifying net worth requirement\nof $2 million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Quebec Immigrant Investor Program: Requirements<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Legally\n     acquired personal net worth of $2 million;<\/li><li>Two\n     years of suitable management or business experience within the five years\n     preceding the application;<\/li><li>Investment&nbsp;of\n     $1.2 million into a passive government guaranteed investment for a period\n     of five years bearing no interest;<\/li><li>Intend\n     to settle in the province of Quebec.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>The QIIP is currently open with a target of 1,900\napplications, with a deadline of August 31, 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>HNWIs also have the option of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.immigration.ca\/buy-a-business-and-move-to-canada-immigration-program\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">buying\na business and moving to Canada<\/a> under the federal owner-operator rules.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A two-stage process sees candidates enter Canada on a work\npermit before applying for permanent residence under an existing immigration\nprogram, for example Express Entry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The owner-operator policy is not a formal immigration\nprogram. Rather, it is a work permit issued under the federal Temporary Foreign\nWorker Program (TFWP).&nbsp;There is no annual quota on the number of\nwork-permits that can be issued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To qualify as an owner-operator, the foreign investor must\nhave:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol><li>Verifiable, transferable\nmanagement experience.<\/li><li>Sufficient assets to\npurchase the targeted business in Canada.<\/li><li>Sufficient language\nabilities in either English or French to&nbsp;<strong>actively<\/strong>&nbsp;work as a\nmanager in the business.<\/li><li>Controlling interest in the\nbusiness: own more than 50% of the shares and cannot be dismissed.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>Several of Canada\u2019s other provinces also operate two-stage <a href=\"https:\/\/www.immigration.ca\/provincial-entrepreneur-programs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">entrepreneur\nimmigration programs<\/a> which see candidates initially arrive on a work\npermit, before qualifying for permanent residence once the terms of a business\nagreement have been met.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A new study shows Canada is among the world\u2019s most popular countries for millionaire immigrants to move to.
