A recent survey spread over 49 countries and 3200 technology professionals from all over the world threw up interesting information about the distribution of tech professionals in the developed world. The Harvey Nash Technology Survey 2015, which covered countries like Ireland, the UK, the USA, Australia, Switzerland, Germany, and other nations indicated that 48% of all tech professionals in Australia had been born outside Australia.<\/p>\n

This is significantly higher than the global average where around one out of every three tech professional is born outside the country where the professional currently resides. While Australia is the biggest importer of tech pros, Switzerland is the biggest exporter with close to 60% of experts born in Switzerland working in a foreign country. Australia and Germany followed with 35% of the pros born in the two nations working in other countries.<\/p>\n

The Managing Director of Harvey Nash analyzed the data and said that lack of immigration might have resulted in significant challenges to Australia\u2019s current status as an eminent contributor to the world of technology. Inflow of tech professionals into Australia is expected to continue with 44% of Australian companies expecting their tech team headcount to rise in 2015. In the 2014 survey, this figure was at 33%. Europe is expected to lag behind while demand from the USA is expected to be as strong as demand in the Asia-Pacific region.<\/p>\n

With the global economic recovery picking up steam, professionals are seeking out bigger and better challenges that may have lost steam during the recession. This is likely to result in continued onshore growth along with increased diversity as far as the resourcing model is concerned.<\/p>\n

The Australian tech world is, according to the survey, insulated from manpower challenges with just 41% of professionals in Australia worrying about shortage of skills while the global average at more than 51%<\/p>\n

Local demand was highest for immigrant professionals with development skills and mobile tech skills. Android developers were in high demand with particular emphasis on those who can contribute towards transformation of technology and engineer major change.<\/p>\n

The feeling of contributing to the team and the experience of working on innovative and challenging projects were the preferred choices for Australian tech pros queried about their expectations when searching for a new job. Seven out of every ten professionals attach more value to team effort and innovation over salary or other conventional factors.<\/p>\n
