Spain has been ranked as the 7th-best destination for foreigners and expats in a survey done by InterNations. Based on factors like general quality of life, ease of settling in the country, work and family life balance, and personal finance, the Expat Insider report threw up surprising results with Ecuador ranked as the surprise winner. Luxembourg and Mexico came next while Spain was ranked seventh. According to the survey, expats considered Greece, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait as the worst expat destinations in the world.<\/p>\n
94% of the expats were satisfied with personal safety in Spain while 79% considered the political setup to be stable. This was considerably higher than the global ranking where 85% respondents enjoyed personal safety and 46% felt they lived in a politically stable country. Spain received top ranking for making newcomers feel welcome with 82% of the respondents according positive ranking to Spain.<\/p>\n
On the flip side, the nation was ranked 11th in terms of friendliness, with just 59% saying that it was easy to easy new friends in Spain. While 13% of the respondents spoke of unfriendly attitudes from the country\u2019s residents, just 5% of the respondents said they had a less than ideal experience with Spanish residents.<\/p>\n
Despite being ranked 23rd for ease of language-based integration, more than 70% expats felt that Spanish was an easy language to learn while 79% of expats said they were confident enough to speak it. Spain was ranked high as far as quality of medical infrastructure and care was concerned but was amongst the five worst countries in terms of comparison of the expats\u2019 earnings with their previous incomes. This is probably why Spain was ranked 55th out of 61 nations in the Working Abroad Index.<\/p>\n
Spain did well in social parameters with more than 99% speaking highly about the weather and an equally strong majority praising family friendliness. Spain was ranked high for being friendly towards families with children and 98% of the respondents residing in Spain were satisfied with the health and safety of their children in Spain. 34% of the respondents claimed to be completely satisfied with the social life in Spain with 45% saying they were satisfied with their lives in Spain.<\/p>\n
The survey attached a lot of importance to overall satisfaction with the life of the expat in the foreign country. This query received additional weight in determining the country\u2019s ranking<\/p>\n
A fifth of the expats said they had moved to Spain to enjoy a better life and confirmed that they were indeed enjoying an improved quality of life. Spain was ranked second after Switzerland in the Quality of Life Index.<\/p>\n
