Saskatchewan immigration’s popular Entrepreneur stream has a new way of selecting candidates, with the next Expression of Interest draw expected on January 7, 2020.
The province will prioritize three selection factors to separate candidates with the same score on the Entrepreneur stream points grid.
“In order to manage application inventory and meet the processing times target of three months, the SINP will select EOI candidates from the system based on points to score as well as other factors for business and settlement success,” a Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP) statement said.
The three factors, in order of priority, are:
- Official language ability.
- Those with businesses planned for a key economic sector.
- Completion of an exploratory visit.
Saskatchewan has identified these three factors as central to a candidate’s ‘future economic success’ in the province.
Saskatchewan’s most recent Entrepreneur draw took place on December 5, 2019, with 62 invites issued and an average score of 120 points.
Future draws are planned for January 7 and March 5, 2020.

The Saskatchewan immigration Entrepreneur stream is a three-stage process:
- Expression of interest
- Invitation to submit application
- Nomination
The expression of interest must meet the following minimum entry requirements:
- Minimum net worth of $500,000 legally acquired.
- Minimum of three years of entrepreneurial or relevant management experience.
- Investment of at least $300,000 in Regina or Saskatoon, or $200,000 in any other Saskatchewan area.
Candidates enter a pool where they receive a score. The top-scoring candidates are invited to submit an application.
Applications must include:
- Business Establishment Plan confirming figures in expression of interest, and including at least one-third ownership of a company in Saskatchewan, unless investment is $1 million or higher.
- Commitment to be active in the day-to-day management of the business.
- Creation of two or more jobs for Canadian citizens or permanent residents if the business is located in Regina or Saskatoon.
Meanwhile, Saskatchewan launched a new International Graduate Entrepreneur Stream in December, aimed at international students graduating from Saskatchewan institutions.
The stream works on a four-stage process, where candidates submit an Expression of Interest, receive an Invitation to Apply, establish their business while on a Post-Graduation Work Permit and are then nominated for permanent residence.
